How long does it take to walk the Las Vegas Strip?

To walk from the world-famous Welcome To Fabulous Las Vegas Sign to The STRAT is 4.8 miles (7.7 KM). Without stopping, it’ll take you about two hours. Don’t forget to grab cocktails, beers, or a frozen adult beverage along the way.

For a shorter walk, start at Mandalay Bay and head to Resorts World for a total of 3 miles. You’ll see the majority of the resorts, and you’ll skip a lot of empty lots along the way.

Avoid walking The Strip in June, July, and August as temperatures are well above 100 degrees for the whole day.

What is considered The Strip in Las Vegas?

The Las Vegas Strip is the common name for Las Vegas Boulevard. There’s a lot of debate where The Strip starts and ends. We say it begins at the Welcome To Fabulous Las Vegas Sign near Russell Road on the south end and ends at W Sahara Avenue.

If we’re nerdy about it, W Sahara Avenue is the dividing line between the city limits of Las Vegas (to the north) and unincorporated Paradise (to the south). So technically, the Las Vegas Strip isn’t in the city of Las Vegas.

Is the Las Vegas Strip better than downtown?

The Strip is a lot different than Fremont Street in downtown Las Vegas. Both areas have their pros and cons. The Strip offers guests more choices, including luxury hotels, shows, nightclubs, restaurants, and things to do. The trade-off is that The Strip is dramatically more expensive. Downtown you’ll find $3 beers, $10 entrees, free live music, and cheap gambling options with fantastic odds.

Fremont Street is small, with only 12 casinos and just over 6,000 hotel rooms. It takes about 20 minutes to walk from Plaza to El Cortez. In comparison, The Strip is four miles long with 4,000-room mega-resorts; it’ll take you two hours to walk The Strip.

The Strip is better for guests seeking nightclubs, shows, world-class dining, big resorts, and who aren’t on a tight budget. Downtown is better for guests looking for better gambling odds, who are on a tight budget, and want a taste of old Vegas.

Is the Vegas Strip safe at night?

Yes, but be cautious. Police and security heavily patrol The Strip, especially at night. Like any other tourist city, you need to be alert of your surroundings. There are pickpockets and scammers. Just be mindful of who’s around you.

Another aspect that makes Las Vegas unique is the open container laws on The Strip. Drunken behavior is not uncommon at night. However, police and security are well-prepared for drunk crowds.

The best spot for a more laid-back vacation on The Strip would be on the south end at Mandalay Bay or on the north end at Wynn, Encore, The Venetian, or Palazzo.
