Q&A: Will USAirways dehubbing of Las Vegas mean fewer flights at LAS?
Question by confidential0908:
Will USAirways dehubbing of Las Vegas mean fewer flights at LAS?
I read an article that USAIRWAYS will be closing its Las Vegas hub. Will this mean that Las Vegas will be getting fewer flights? Will USAIRWAYS shut down their Phoenix hub next?

I had not heard that. With America West having such a large presents there as well, I can’t imagine a lack of flights out of there… just guessing though.

Not really.
What will happen is larger and more profitable airlines will jump in and take over the spots.

I didn’t know US Airways was dehubbing Vegas. It might be because Southwest is giving them a lot of competition. I heard America West used to have problems competing against Southwest. If US Airways does dehub, they may turn Las Vegas into a focus city.
As for shutting down their Phoenix hub, I doubt that will happen. When US Airways and America West merged, the deal was that the surviving airline would be named US Airways and the headquarters would be in Phoenix. Also US Airways needs a hub out west. All their hubs are in the east coast.
