Question by Wuendy Z:
is it cheaper to book Vegas hotels online or the day of at the hotel?

I need to know if anyone knows from EXPERIENCE if its cheaper to book a hotel online for Vegas hotels or at the hotel, the day off. I am looking at Treasure Island or whatever is on the strip.

The reason I ask is because I figure hotels need to unload hotel rooms the day off and I might be able to get it cheaper than booking online.

Vegas hotels (especially those on the strip) never really need to “unload” rooms. One thing to keep in mind is this… An empty room isn’t costing the hotel anything. They don’t have to clean or restock it, or pay someone to do so. It simply doesn’t pay for them to rent a room at a very small (if any) profit to an average joe that might not even drop a in a slot machine (not to say that you wouldn’t).

My advice would be to check out the bargain sites like priceline, hotwire, etc. Even thought the commercials claim that the hotels are trying to get rid of their rooms, the hotels actually sell blocks of rooms to those services in advance. Therefore, it’s those companies who are more likely to offer big discounts last minute.

You also want to be careful because waiting until last minute may cost you far more than it might save. I always look for good deals in advance during slow times of year. If a cheaper price comes up later, oh well.

Want to really save money? Don’t bother staying on the strip, or stay at an older property like the Trop. You’ll still be close to all the action and won’t have to spend a ton of money on a place to crash.

Good luck and have fun!
