Do the $20 dollar bill trick. While checking in hold a 20 dollar bill while you’re talking to the rep.

Your mileage on how far or how successful the $20 trick will get you really depends on different factors such as hotel, date, and check-in clerk.
This site should give you some tips on how and what to do:

Yes the $20 tip trick or “bribe” works… sometimes. I held out a $100 bill and asked for an upgrade at Mirage and got a nice Jr. Suite cheap. (less the $100 bribe). However… I believe in the old saying “ask and you shall receive”! That or win a lot at the tables or slots. Good luck!

I think a lot has to do with your personality and the timing. My husband and I were checking into Aladdin the front desk person asked us if we wanted to upgrade we asked how much and what the upgrade was to, he explained it, and we decided that for the cost we weren’t interested in it. He finished the check in process then when he handed us our key he laughed and said I think your going to enjoy your room. He had upgraded us to one of their best suites.
I think if you ask nicely and don’t expect things it will sometimes get you far.

Tipping for room upgrades is one of the easiest ways to get hustled in Vegas, especially if you don’t know exactly what the rooms are and what they are worth.
If you want something specific in your room, ask for it specifically. If you want a jacuzzi tub, ask for a room with jacuzzi tub. The clerk will then tell you how much it costs for a jacuzzi suite and ask if you want to change your reservation.
If you slip the clerk $20 and ask for a “nice room” wink, wink, the clerk will roll their eyes, pocket the $20, give you the exact same room you were going to get anyway and tell you they managed to squeeze you into a “premium view” room as a special favor just for you.
