Package deals are rarely cost effective. They usually include a lot of coupons which you can get anyway. They also come with some painfully slow shuttles from the airport to the hotel. Many now include 24 hour access to the buffet which makes it difficult for you to leave the hotel for very long.

Hard to answer your question without knowing how long you will say, what kind of budget and what your areas of interest are. Some people fly to Vegas and sit in front of a slot machine 12 hours a day for two days and then leave. Others want pools, shows, dining, clubbing, tours etc. Some want only fast food others want fine dining. Some want adult shows some family friendly shows.
So, the best I can do for you is provied this link. Hope it helps. I could provide more specific information if you gave more details.
Generic tips: Get a hotel on the Strip preferably near middle or Southern end. It will save a lot of transportation cost and shoe-leather. The weather is hot and dry. People with sinus conditions and people with contact lenses will need to get moisturizing products for comfort. While it is hot out it is well air conditioned indoors. Be prepared with something to cover the shoulders if you are sensitve to cold.
If you intend to see any of the Top Production shows or any Headliners, get your tickets before going to Vegas. If you intend to dine at any fine restaruants, you will need a reservation. Your hotel concierge can help you.
If you use the hotel pool, you need your hotel key to gain admittance and remember to bring some singles to tip the towel boy. Bring something to cover your swimsuit while walking to and from the pool.
There is a lot of walking. Wear comfortable shoes that are sturdy enough to support your weary feet. Sun block is essential if you plan to be out in the daylight. Very powerful solar radiation and rarely any clouds.
Leave plenty of room in your suitcase for purchases you will be bringing home. Lots of shopping in most hotels.

Ok, first of all, visit this site: http://www.visitlasvegashotels.com
There is a lot of information there that will help you decide on where to stay, and what to do when in Las Vegas.
As far as packages, I’m not aware of any that have worked out really great for people in the past. I have heard that Southwest and Priceline aren’t bad options, but you should do some more homework when it comes to that.
