What Vegas hotel would you recommend for a non gambling couple?
Hello everyone, my wife and myself are thinking of going to Vegas for our 5 year anniversary and neither of us have ever been there before. We are only looking to stay like 4 days. Where should we stay? Neither of us like to gamble, we would just be there to sightsee and maybe see a show or two. I’ve heard that we shouldn’t stay downtown and to stay focused on the south/central strip area. There are so many choices which one is the best and why? We probably don;t want to spend over $150 a night for the room.

Im not really sure what hotel to choose, because I’ve stayed in Treasure Island hotel, but its a litte more than 150 a night. Just a warning, there are a LOT of smokers in Vegas. Good thing you are not a gambler cause most of the smoking takes place there.

Hi…if I was going to be taken there for my anniversary….I would like to stay at the Paris. I just think that is a nice place, kind of romantic. And if you get a room overlooking the strip you can also watch the Bellagio fountain show from your room! Just the opinion of a woman.

Greetings, Sean. Unfortunately Vegas is built so much on gaming that it doesn’t really matter what hotel you stay at. They are all focused on gambling.
There are a lot of choices and the best would be determined by your needs and how fancy you want your room to be. I will name you five hotels that are nice, comfortable, close to things, and affordable.
1. Monte Carlo (moderate rooms, good good, awesome pool)
2. New York, New York (smaller rooms, great food, okay pool, amazing scene)
3. The Luxor (moderate rooms, good food, awesome design, friendly staff)
4. The Paris (beautiful rooms, great food, nice pool, friendly staff)
5. The Mirage (decent rooms, okay food, a little older, nice pool although can often be too cold, great staff/front desk)

My hubby and I have stayed at several of the hotels on the strip but I think my favorites would have to be the Bilagio and the Venetian. We love visiting Las Vegas. We try and go at least every other year. What I would suggest you do is pick out two hotels that look good and stay at each one for two nights. Each hotel in Las Vegas has something different to offer so it worth it to check them out. I hope you two have fun:o)

I’m getting ready to make my 5th trip (7 days and counting!) and can offer up what i know:
-Lots of people who don’t gamble go to Vegas because there is SO much going on all the time, you won’t be bored
-If you’re not renting a car (completely up to you – I’ve only rented once before and had no problems) I’d stay in the area of and at any of these:Bellagio, Venetian, Mirage, Caesars, Ballys, Paris, Aladdin, MGM (stayed here once, going back this time), New York New York, Treasure Island, Flamingo or Harrahs. There are a few smaller spots mixed in and you might find your price range in there but the price is going to depend largely when you go. Las Vegas is a convention town and there are a few big ones so if you notice a spike in rates, try a week before or after. Most hotels have a calendar showing their normal rates for a month or too so you can get a good idea. I’ve stayed at MGM, Luxor, Aladdin, and the Golden Nugget. Definitely wouldn’t stay downtown again, but that’s a personal preference. Nothing says you can’t book two nights at one place and two at another! Luxor is a neat hotel but it’s way down there, as is Mandalay Bay. Las Vegas built a monorail recently that allows easy travel up and down the strip but I think it’s only on the MGM side of the strip. There’s escalators to skywalks over Las Vegas Boulevard and it’s a very walkable city (to the Casinos, anyway.) These are not your normal hotels and they are HUGE so be prepared for a walk to your room and back just to get out of the hotel, but you can request something closer to the elevator.
-For non gambling, non casino activities, I once did a horseback ride through red rock canyon at sunset and then we had a big steak dinner outside with the cowboys. That was great. Hoover Dam is not too far, Grand Canyon is a bit further (couple of hours). Lake Mead has a ton of recreational options too.
-Every ‘big name’ hotel has a show going on – There’s something like 5 plus Cirque de Soleil shows throughout, the Blue man group, tons of comedians, magicians, etc.
-Food – DO NOT miss the crepes at the Venetian. I dream about those crepes. Otherwise, there’s endless options for anything you could want
-Grand Canyon helicopter tours operate out of Vegas and will arrange pick up, I believe. Plus, if you decide you need a car after you arrive, there’s rental agencies in a lot of the hotels.
-Each of the bigger casinos is a destination to itself so bring good walking shoes and a camera! So much to see, tons of shops and restaraunts, the Venetian has a great travelling entertainers show, Caesars has great free entertainment too in the Forum shops. Please don’t miss the fountains at Bellagio at night and then there’s the Eiffel tower you can eat at the top of at Paris. New York New York has a rollercoaster on the outside of the Casino, as does Sahara.
-The other casinos further north and to downtown have some definite highpoints too. Just do some looking for las vegas info. on Google (Actually, i hang out in the Las Vegas group on google groups – great source of info.) and you should find more than you wanted to know

Bellagio Venetian Mandalay and Wynn are great places that have discounts, and they do not force you to gamble, and you just enjoy their great halls and paintings etc.
You don’t have to be a gambler to enjoy Vegas.

The average price nowadays is about $150, so you can do it if you’re careful. Try avoiding Fri-Sat nights, and you can get lower prices. Check directly at the hotel websites for their best rates; they don’t like to give those to the consolidators anymore.
Of the older and mid-range hotels, these have the most entertainment value: Luxor, New York New York, Aladdin (soon becoming Planet Hollywood), Flamingo, Harrah’s, Imperial Palace. These all have nice lounges, shows, atmosphere, etc. You don’t have to be too choosy because you can get to other hotels for shows and attractions by walking (somewhat) or taking taxis, the double-decker bus (“the Deuce”), or the trolley, which go all around the Strip. You will get the legendary Flamingo for under $150. This hotel is rite in the middle of the action across the road is Bellagio and Caesars Palace. To the north is Mirage, Treasure Island and Venetian and to the south is Paris and Aladdin all within a few minutes walking distance. Most of the big shows are in those hotels.
Flamingo has beautiful gardens filled with animals and fish. They also have a lovely pool and a number of good shows themselves such as Toni Braxton. The Flamingo casino is not on the gigantic scale as in Mandalay Bay or MGM Grand so that shouldn’t be a problem either.
Next door to Flamingo; Bills Gambling Hall and Saloon is a small hotel with rooms for around $80 during the week. Rooms are done in the Victorian style with 42″ plasma wall mounted tvs. Problem with this hotel is lack of amenties such as no pool, only 2 restaurants, few shows etc but again everything on the central strip is just seconds away.

Well, when i went we stayed at the jockey club hotel, theres no gambling it it. it was a fairly nice place, nothing too special tho. We were lucky to get a fab view of the fountains. its located just beside ceasers palace. Theres a pool and hottub and excersise gym. Also i heard the stratosphere is a nice place, it looks very unique and glam. We actually wanted to stay there because it was cheaper than the jockey club and looked nicer but the rooms were all sold out. I looked at pictures of it and the pool looked so lovely. Both hotels are right on the strip.. the stratosphere is a little further down from the other hotels tho.
Anyway, have a blast in las vegas!
