Get off the beaten path. Go to a non resort place. There are motel 6 type places and similar.
By the way, what does “really cheap” mean to you?

You can get cheap hotels from $18 onwards. What is ur budget? Las Vegas has a lot of cheap hotels and if u r lucky u can also get good star rating hotels cheap.
Try http://www.ooaha.com hotel search. I used it recently and got a good deal at $25.
also i suggest check the official site of Las Vegas tourism to know more whats permitted there and what is not esp if u r single.

Right now all the hotels, with the exception of the very best, are offering great rates. If there was ever a time to stay in a nice Vegas hotel, this is it.
But if you want really cheap, I would check into the hotels that are off strip. The Orleans, Gold Coast, South Point, and of the Station properties, ect ect .They are all decent hotels, but very affordable. i have seen rates as low as 29$ a night.

The best bet to get a cheap hotel is http://www.hotels.com, better yet if you go to each casino web site and sign up for email offers you will get some awesome offers. Excalibur is offering $22.00 a night and NYNY is offering $59.00 a night.

What do you consider cheap? There are great deals in Vegas, even on the famous Strip. You just need to search. Try Sahara, Tropicana, Riveria, Circus Circus manor (priority)

Stand alone hotel/motels have to make their money renting the rooms. Casino hotels rent the rooms to make money with the casino. Your best bet is the check on hotels in downtown Vegas. They are going real cheap. Cheaper than motel 6 and places like that.

there are quite a few sites that you can search that will likely give you the best prices available. just go here: http://hs10.info/5lsr and you will be able to compare prices on all the reputable travel sites in just a couple minutes. it’s very convenient and will save you a bunch of time and money. most hotels overthere are not expensive even the good ones, unless there is an event or tournment during that time, visit expedia.com for las vegas hotels and see the pictures and prices.
