Circus Circus. I’m sure there are other attractions, but that’s the casino that always advertises for “families”. I saw a special on the Travel Channel a few weeks ago that said taking kids who are teens to Vegas is best though, as there are more things to do with older kids than toddler or grade school age.

I just got back from Las Vegas. I have heard exactly what you have heard and I am here to tell you the truth. There is absolutley NOTHING for kids in vegas. Nothing. I promise you. There are beautiful buildings, shows(comedies, follies, cir du sole, …) but nothing the kids would really enjoy, there are a couple of roller coasters…but not what you really want as a kid, the excaliber sounds kidish, but it is not. It does have the “Tournament of Kings” which is a dinner show, but it is really not for kids. There are a few free shows like Circus Circus(a deceiving name as it is an old casino/hotel barely on the strip) which has a free circus performance. What I saw was a one man act balancing on a ball.( it was horrible)They do have a nice buffet there though, or there is a lion habitat at MGM that is nice with a nice jungle theme restaurant. All the hotels have casinos and that is the real focus of Vegas. The Bellagio has the dancing waters the kids would like for a few seconds…but not for long. Then after dark there are groups of people handing out baseball card sized pictures of naked women. There focus is basically advertising prostitution. The cards are all over the pavement and the people don’t talk to you but they are agressively handing them out. There are assorted newspapers in boxes that sell the same thing and there are trucks with large billboards that advertise women brought to your door in less than 15 minutes.
I have kids of all ages and I adore Vegas, but there is no way I would take them to Vegas unless they were at least 21. You can’t even go into the casino if you are younger. And everything is centered around the casinos.
I can’t believe I got a thumbs down. I was just in Vegas 2 weeks ago. I have kids from 3 years to 26 years. Circus Circus is a casino. It doesn’t cater to kids, it caters to gamblers. I agree with another answer that said they were at one time moving toward making Vegas more family friendly, but that didn’t work. The Freemont street experience is beautiful, it starts at 8p.m. and each show lasted about 8 -10 minutes. I am not sure how much time between each show but I know it was more than 45 minutes. There are some stores there to walk through. I couldn’t access the website you mentioned…but yes, there are kids in Vegas. It is part of the population. But not to vacation. I even saw a couple of young ones in strollers. But I can’t remember seeing family groups with teens or tweens in tow. Just not the place for them. Obviously as some have said, there are things for kids to do, just wouldn’t be my choice…and I am not a gambler or a drinker. I do have my own website where I have been planning field trips and fun things for kids to do for over 14 years. http://www.homeeducationresources.org
so I am aware of most museums, roller coasters, and fun spots for kids. If your vacation is mostly in the swimming pool, yep, you can find plenty of super ones in Vegas. I still opt for elsewhere with kids.

Las Vegas is good for kids in the day, lots of attractions and even at night, The Treasure Island Hotel has a Pirate Battle outside the front of the hotel.
But…. If you walk through the casino’s you will be moved on if you have kids and also in the bars.
I have been to Vegas many time and am going again in 3 weeks and personally I would not take kids.

What you are seeing are left over promotions from a few years ago. For a while, Las Vegas used a family friendly approach to get folks out there to gamble. However, that is now transitioning to a more adult theme. Places like Treasure Island are now gearing away from kids, for instance, the Priate Battle has been replaces with the Sirens of TI sexed up show. They have removed the arcade as well.
There are still plenty of residule things left for kids, if you know where to look but it is by no means geared towards kids any more. Circus, Circus is still one that caters to kids but it is getting pretty run down. The Same with Excalibur.
Don’t get me wrong, if you know where to look there is a lot for families to do. If you stay in a hotel with a good pool and know where to go you can find the Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay, the Wildlife Habitat at the Flamingo, the new Secret Garden Dolphin habitat at the Mirage features dolphins, white tigers, white lions and various other big cats.
The Sahara has the Cyber Speedway and Speed, the ride which is a wild roller coaster. For older kids there are terrifying rides atop the Stratosphere hotel tower.
There are still some kid friendly shows such as Stomp or the Gazillion Bubble show, the Blue Man Group and some of the Cirque du Solil shows. There are various magic acts but be careful to read about the content. Some feature scantily clad females and other adult references.
There is Madame Tussaud’s interactive Wax Museum which is fun. You get to stand right next to all your favorite hollywood and recording stars and take pictures.
Don’t forget that most of these are fantastic, over the top hotels with lots to marvel at and various attractions as well as loads of shops and restaurants.
It pretty much depends on your kids personalities. If they are interested and not wild they will have a very good time. If they are hard to control or need constant stimulation, it may not be wise.
Hope this helps. Feel free to email me if you have specific questions.
Good Luck!

EH.. i just dont know about that.
Granted, there are some hotels that cater to familes like circus circus, of all the great places to take your kids in the world why take them to most hedonistic city on earth.
Litterall everywhere you go people are drinking, gambling, smoking, women are wearing almost nothing by the pools, ect ect. You can drink in public in Vegas, and most people do. Dont get me wrong– I LOVE IT. But i dont think i would bring my kids out here until they are old enough to deal with it. Maybe 16 or older.
Just my 2 cents.

In the late 90′s Vegas tried to be a family friendly destination. It is REALLY getting away from that!
However there still are lots of things that you can do as a family!
10. The Roller Coaster at NY, NY
9. Attractions at the Top of the Statosphere
8. SPEED the Ride at the NASCAR Cafe
7. The Star Trek Experience at Las Vegas Hilton
6. Blue Man Group
5. The Adventure Dome at Circus Circuse
4. A Cirque Show (excpet Zumanity)
3. Tour of the Hoover Dam
2. Tour of the Grand Canyon
1. White Water Rafting down the Colorado River!

That Vegas-for-the-family experiment didn’t work. Families don’t plow through cash like young wannabes do. Haven’t you noticed the attitude of the Vegas ads have changed in the last 10 or so years? They want the ‘Sin City’ rep again.
Try Disneyland or Universal instead. You’ll have a lot less explaining to do. Like everytime a rolling billboard goes by with an 18 year old prostitute seductively arranged across it.

We just returned from a trip to Vegas with 3 kids, ages 2, 6, and 12, and we had an absolute blast! There was so much to do, and all of it was kid-friendly. Here is a list of what we included in our itinerary
Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay- $10/$15
Manhattan Express- $12 ($4 off coupon in What’s On Mag)
Lion Habitat at MGM Grand- FREE
Midway at Excalibur- carnival games that are easy to win
Luxor Imax- $9
M & M World- shop and look around
Coca Cola World- shop & sample cokes around the world
Secret Garden & Dolphin Habitat @ Mirage- $10/$15
Tiger Habitat at Mirage- FREE
Masquerade in the Sky at Rio- FREE
Forum Shops at Caesar’s (F.A.O. Schwartz)- mall
swimming at hotel-FREE
Mac King Comedy Show- Free tix at Harrah’s
Star Trek Experience at Las Vegas Hilton- $40 each
Adventuredome at Circus-Circus- $25 each
Fremont Street Exp- FREE
Tournament of Kings at Excalibur- $50 each (jousting dinner show)
Mystere- kid-friendly Cirque show
Be sure to take the kids to
Carnival World Buffet at Rio- amazing food ($16.99 for lunch)
Spice Market Buffet at PH- cook to order burgers, bratwurst
and tacos
Fatburger- kids get a kick out of the name
Dick’s Last Resort at Excalibur
We never rent a car- public transportation in Vegas is too easy and affordable to pass up. You can take the bus up and down the strip ($2 each way or $5 all day). The monorail is very handy to get to the Las Vegas Hilton for Star Trek ($5 each way, $9 for 2-way, $15 all day I think)
The What’s on Magazine you can find for free all over the place in Vegas has great coupons in it. There is one for the monorail right now. If you need anymore info, feel free to contact me.
So please don’t pay attention to the people who say there is nothing for kids to do. Obviously they are too busy participating in the adult things to notice the city in it’s entirety.

No way.
1. It’s stupid people say it’s kid friendly because it has a couple of roller coasters. Disneyland has dozens of rides and it’s cheaper. Try that instead!
2. I go for the magic shows. Almost all of them have dirty jokes. The kids won’t get the jokes, but the parents will find them offensive.
3. The shows are very expensive. Can you really afford to spend $60 a kid to watch Mystere together?
4. There is a lot of walking involved. A lot of little kids don’t have the stamina to walk around all day in 100 degree heat.
5. The hotels don’t have drinking fountains, even though it’s always very hot there.
6. There is no bike lane on the Las Vegas Strip so the sidewalk is right next to the road. Keep a close watch on your kids if they’re the type to dart out into traffic.
7. The pirate show everyone talks about is extremely crowded so it’s very hard for even an adult to find a place to see it. Image your kids trying to see through that crowd.
8. The casinos all allow smoking and you have to cut through the casinos to go anywhere so you’ll be exposing your children to smoke.

that’s NOT true anymore. circus circus is just about the only “kid” place anymore and honest…it’s kinda “ghetto” now.
there was a time in the early to mid 1990′s when vegas tried to be family friendly, but that’s long gone.
