I don’t understand why people take their children to Las Vegas for vacation-I am not talking about a family event like a wedding-but for vacation. I would like to know what reasoning parents have for this and if they encounter any hostility while there.

I lived in Vegas with my kids and
the Strip is just not a place for them.
I knew better than to even bother taking them.
It has a few things for kids but it is mostly
geared towards the 21+ group.
People who choose to bring their kids are
going to be limited to where they can go.

I dont know why they take them.
Are there things for them to do… yes, but they are few and far between.
I can see (for example):
HOOVER DAM
ROLLERCOASTERS @ various hotels
ARCADES there are a couple of reallllly good ones
POOLS some nice ones
THEY GET TO SEE THE NEON ALL OVER
Kids just dont belong in L.V. .. that’s my opinion. It is the BIGGEST pain for families to stop their walking in the MIDDLE of a casino floor or sidewalk & people begin to trip over them. There is signage of strip clubs, gambling, you name it ALL OVER. I’d hate to be a parent needing to explain every single picture around.
Then there are porn-slappers. The 20 year olds standing on the sidewalk handing out the advertisement cards for getting an ‘escort’ in your hotel room, etc, etc.
Liquor all OVER THE PLACE…. adult behaviour… you name it. It just doesnt make sense.
Take your kids to disneyland.
I think, maybe the reason is… some families just dont get it & feel they HAVE TO HAVE the kids with them. Hopefully, after the 1st trip, they’ll learn to leave the kids with grandma back home.

In the early 1990s Las Vegas got the bright idea to try and attract families. They opened theme parks, put arcades in all the hotels, put in roller coaster, all sorts of stuff. Lo and behold they found out that people who are there with their kids don’t gamble very much. Out went the theme park, most of the arcades, and virtually all the fun for kids. Now Las Vegas presents it self as a “naughty” destination for adults but apparently not everyone has gotten word.
Or maybe they chose not to believe because they want to come to Las Vegas and they don’t really care if their kids have a good time. It tear my heart out when I see two or three kids lurking on the edge of the casino looking bored, when you know their parents are somewhere gambling.
That being said, kids can have a good time in Las Vegas. There are family friendly activities. However the parents have to spend all their time entertaining the kids which really limits their time doing the “adult” stuff

There is quite a bit for kids to do in Vegas for a fun weekend away such as the Knight show at the Excalibur (like a Medieval Times), amusement park at Circus Circus, Siegfried and Roy Lion park, the shark encounter at Mandalay Bay, the hotel pool (Mandalay Bay has the coolest pool on the strip!), as well as many of the casinos offering arcade games, bowling alleys and the such. My older daughter enjoys shows like Cirque Du Soliel.
We live pretty close to Vegas and go there a few times a year. We have been to Vegas a few times with our kids and many times for a couples weekend. It is a different trip depending on who you are visiting with. We don’t gamble when our kids are hanging out with us and I would NEVER let my teenage kids wander around Vegas or the casinos by themselves.

Lots of stuff to do in Vegas. My wife and I take our teenage daughters about twice a year. I don’t drink or gamble and we have a great time seeing the sights, rides, fine dining, etc., etc.
There’s nothing particularly adult here that isn’t anywhere else. Driving to work (San Diego) on the freeway we pass 2 totally nude strip clubs. So what’s the big deal about Vegas. I listen to what’s on the radio and there is much more vulgar, disgusting, woman-degrading stuff playing on the top-40 (rap) than Vegas could ever dream of competing with.
The kids have shown no desire to drink or gamble so far, so I guess Vegas hasn’t rubbed off on them yet.

Because they are selfish & want to go on an adult vacation, but can’t leave the kids at home.
