I have found that when booking a vacation, it is best to find a package deal *unless* you have a good discount via a promotion from the casino (due to comps, etc.). Prices are varying a great deal right now from week to week. However, you can still get a good price on a vacation to Vegas.
I have found that these are good sites:
http://www.vegas.com
http://www.expedia.com
http://www.sidestep.com – this is a meta site that searches other sites
Also, try the airline sites directly for vacation packages. Sometimes, although not lately, they have good deals, too.
Book as early as you can (6 months ahead or more if possible) to lock in a good price. If you are brave and you live cose to Vegas, you can also wait it out for a last minute deal the week before your vacation. I don’t do that because they usually do not have the flights I want, but you may find it works for you.
Good luck!!

You are better off booking separately.
For flights, do a search on Kayak engine and it will check all airlines and major travel site and return the cheapest fare to Vegas.

For hotels, book directly from the hotels using their discount promo codes. Here are a few codes for hotels on the Vegas strip.

Here is what you do … go to http://www.sidestep.com and search package .. then search seperately hotel and air. Once you get the best prices then go directly to the hotel or airline website and book that way. Most travel sites charge a booking fee and don’t tell you until the end when paying. Going direct you get no extra hidden fees plus a lot of hotels offer incentives to book direct with free stuff and discout offers. Take the time and research. You will ge all kinds of advice but it you do the work .. you will save.

It is better to book air and hotel separately. For air I would check kayak.com and for hotel I recommend to keep an eye on http://www.vegas-hotels-online.com

I have booked both seperately and together. The last two times have been together, though, through expedia.
For my upcoming trip, I booked flight and hotel and got the third night at Signature MGM for free! If I had booked air and hotel seperately, I wouldn’t have received this deal.
I’d suggest playing around with different days/weeks, if possible and checking every few days, as sales can pop up at anytime. If you want to book seperately, try sidestep as well.

I am going to Vegas mid-December. I booked my flight through Orbitz.com and it came out to around $320 round trip. I booked my hotel through hotels.com and they have very good deals depending on when you’re going
