Is there any way to get a discount on the monarail in Las Vegas?
Question by Proud2bMe:
Is there any way to get a discount on the monarail in Las Vegas?
I’ll be staying at the MGM Signature Hotel and I’ve heard there’s a bit of a walk to the strip.

To ride the monorail one way is five bucks. To buy an all day unlimited pass is around 19.00 dollars. There is no way to get a discount. And the MGM is on the far south end of the strip (I don’t think the monorail even goes to the MGM, if i remember right).

Las Vegas residents get a reduced fare of $2 per trip for 2 trips daily.
The monorail is not really closer to the strip than the signature hotel.
Everything in Vegas is a lot of walking. Typically the hotels are built away from the street.

The MGM is right on the (south end) of the strip. It is walking distance to the major casino’s. The monorail runs behind the casino’s on the east side, from the MGM up to just past the Hilton. The MGM like many of the big hotels are BIG……expect to walk a bit just crossing the lobby.
In fact, if you haven’t been there before. Expect to walk a lot in Vegas. It is the easiest way to get around. Traffic on the strip is tough & most people avoid it. The sidewalks are safe to walk & you will find people out going from casino to casino. You really don’t need a car if your visiting for a few days. Have fun.

Keep an eye out on the monorail website for any possible discounted rates and additional information. The last time I saw discounted rates on the fares were over a year ago, however. Right now single ride tickets are $5.00 each, the day pass is $12.00 and the three day pass is $28.00. The monorail runs north to south and back again between the following stations: Sahara, Las Vegas Hilton, Las Vegas Convention Center, Harrah’s/Imperial Palace, Flamingo, Bally’s/Paris, and the MGM.
The biggest thing to keep in mind is that the monorail stations are not close to the street itself (The Strip). They are on the east side of the strip BEHIND their respective hotel/casino stopping points. So you’ve got to walk through the casino and wind your way back out to the street. This is, of course, so you must spend time in the respective casinos and (they hope) spend some money.
You may want to consider the Deuce bus which is a casual public transportation option. It is much more cost effective and actually runs ON the strip so you get sightseeing and transportation down in one shot. You can purchase a 24 hour pass for $7.00 that will be usable on any bus in the city, so long that a bus travels there. If you want to ride JUST the Deuce bus and won’t need to travel anywhere off of the Strip, there is a fare for that bus only (I believe it is $5.00, double check when you arrive).
Just a side note, taxis are another option of course but they can be pricey. I suggest using them if you’re needing to get to a show or a dinner reservation in a short amount of time. Taxi fare is not set, it is based on mileage and wait time. For example, the average cost to go from the Stratosphere to the MGM is typically about $17-20 for a one way fare. If you’re unsure what the best method of transportation would be for your needs, ask your hotel concierge or the front desk.
Best of luck and have fun!

The monorail is $5 each way. The monorail is $13 for an all-day pass (the website says $12, but all the $12 signs were covered up with $13 when we were there in early March). There was also a 3-day pass.
If you’re looking for cheaper, the bus that runs up and down the strip is $3 each way and $7 for an all-day. It also goes downtown to Fremont Street, which the monorail does not.
And you’ll be doing lots of walking in Vegas.
