Each casino is different, but almost all of them use the police 400 codes and standard ten-codes on the radio. They almost all make you qualify on non-weapon unarmed defense techniques and detaining procedures. No guns inside the casino, though the bigger casinos have armed guards in the parking lots.
It’s not as glorious or easy as you think. There’s a LOT of walking, and you can’t go to work tired or high – you’ll get canned quickly. And don’t even think about hitting on girls (especially employees) or talking big to customers.
Being a security guard, being a pit boss and running a surveillance camera in the casino are three very distinctly different, independent jobs. Security usually takes the chips from the main cage to the playing areas. The pit bosses supervise all transactions at the gaming tables.
You’d have to get a Nevada guard card and a TAM card (working around alcoholic beverages). For the guard card, Metro does some checks on your background and some fingerprinting. Both cards together will set you back about $120.
Benefits include two free meals a day and usually a 401k plan.
You don’t need a degree to get started, but to move up in ranks a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice would be very helpful.
