Q&A: Why are flights to Vegas so expensive right now?
Question by Moxie1313:
Why are flights to Vegas so expensive right now?
Everyone keeps telling me(including travel books) that flights to Vegas aren’t supposed to be that expensive. So how com ethey’re running around 0 p/p, r/t from Boston now? Less than a month ago a friend got the same tickets for 0(I know prices can and do change, but this seems ridiculous). Anyone I talk to who’s gone to Vegas lately says the prices are way out of control. Any ideas why?
I’m actually looking for tickets for Sept, flying out on a Monday and back on a Thursday. It sucks, with prices this high, we can’t afford to go. ![]()
I’ve checked all sites(travelocity, expedia, orbitz) as well as directly checking airline sites. Oh well.

An airline agent told me that right now, everyone wants to go to Vegas…so the tickets are high. When the city’s popularity declines a bit, the prices will go back down.

Prices to Vegas always go up in the summer. And if you are looking at a weekend flight, the cheaper seats always sell out fast – like as soon as they go on sale. If you can adjust your travel dates by a day or two on either end you might have luck finding a better price. I also think that current gas prices have something to do with it as well.

Well… I do not really know.. but I live in Vegas… I think all that might be caused by two reasons:
1. The hot weather is starting.. is hot!! but not as hot as in a few months… in about one or two months the temperature will be almost hell… and I am not being sarcastic or exagerating… it will actually be over 100 degrees…. and it will feel like 125… anyways.. I wouldn’t go to Vegas after one or two months.. if you want to go to Vegas before November.. then go now.. before it gets too hot… believe me… I live in Vegas and still I don’t get used to the heat of July and August…
2. Vegas is facing mayor proyects right now…. about 20 billion dollars in combined huge proyects… One of them is the biggest private finaced proyect in history… then it is really a huge and important one… MAYBE people is flying not only as tourist but to try to get employed in one of the new proyects… Another proyect is a bunch of stadiums for all kinds of professional sports.. and the NHL was talking about getting Vegas a team to play professional Hockey… then there you have it…
Another thing… is that Vegas is still the number 1!!! destination in the world…. for entertainment and vacations…
Hope that helps…

The prices to Vegas changes constantly because of the upcoming holidays. one coming up is 4th of July Independence day. When this town has anything to do with fireworks, the money has to come form somewhere. all the seasonal holidays, government holidays etc. is when the prices sky rocket. Also when special events come to town, like the rodeo, races, mtv awards, etc.
The tickets are cheaper if your living on the west side also.
Being on the east side, well, longer flight time, longer jet fuel usage, and you know what the gas prices are like now.

Because it vacation time and jet fuel prices are going up.
